Title: Arrangements with Physicians and Other Risks: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You

The presentation will cover compliance risks involved in IRF arrangements with physicians and vendors, as well as relationships with other facilities whose patients originate from or are transferred to the IRF. Specific risks under the Stark law, the anti-kickback statute, the beneficiary inducement prohibition, and other relevant laws will be identified and discussed. The presentation will emphasize arrangements that may exist between IRFs and physicians, including medical director arrangements and medical staff membership. The presentation will include a brief overview of the relevant laws, but will focus primarily on how IRFs can remain in compliance and what risks to watch for in the highlighted arrangements. Best practices for creating and monitoring the types of relationships that pose risks will also be discussed.
